Week 6 Recap Portage South entered the week on a seven game winning streak and facing Sharon Cox Painting. Sharon scored one in the first and one in the third to grab a 2-0 lead, but PS scored two in the bottom of the third to tie it on a Ryan Hunter single and a RBI single by Mike Darrah. Sharon would score two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 5-2. Portage South would score one in the sixth on a Darrah solo homerun, but lost 5-3.
PS bounced back against the Randolph Reds on Thursday and won 3-2. Randolph would get on the board first by scoring a run in the top of the second. Portage South would score two in the bottom of the inning on a RBI groundout by Mike Haney and Kevin Haley stole home on a double steal after hitting a double. PS would get a run in the fifth on a RBI double by Mike Darrah and hold on to win. Jesse Michel threw five innings to pick up the win. Ryan Hunter threw the last two innings for the save.
Portage South would round out the week with a game against the Aurora Big Ballers. PS's bats finally woke up as they exploded for 11 runs. Ryan Hunter had a grand slam and Jesse Michel, Dan Herbert and Brandon Fedor all homered as well. Mark Bonfiglio had 12 strikeouts and allowed only three hits for the complete game victory.
Week 5 Recap Rain shorten the week to just two games. Monday's game against Aurora Big Ballers at Sisler Field was washed out by the rains. Canton-Akron Legend game scheduled for Thursday was also rained out. PS was finally able to play on Sunday against Delanie's Grille at Ravenna High School. In game one, Delanie's Grille jumped out to the early lead by scoring two in the first. PS cut the lead in half on an RBI single by Mike Darrah. In the fourth, Portage South broke a 3-3 tie on a 2-run single by Jesse Michel, followed by Kevin Haley's RBI double. Delanie's Grille tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning. Darrah singled with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Dan Herbert followed with a double to center that scored Darrah for the win. Ryan Hunter pitched the seventh to pick up the win.
In game two, Portage South scored two runs in the second inning on a 2-run double by Greg Goode. Delanie's Grille scored five runs in the third inning on a bases loaded walk and a grand slam by Brian Eaddy to take the lead. PS closed the gap to one run on an RBI single by Kevin Haley and an RBI double by Mike Darrah that scored Haley. Portage South would take the lead in the fifth with three runs in the inning and round out the scoring on a 2-run homerun by Dan Herbert in the sixth. Tony Lewitzke threw a scoreless fifth to pick up his third win of the season. Ryan Hunter threw the final two innings to pick up the save.
Week 4 Recap Portage South won all four games of the week and moved back into first place at 11-2. On Tuesday, PS traveled to Field High School to take on the Randolph Reds in a battle of the top two teams in the Suburban Division. Portage South jumped out to the early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning. Nick Dean, Dan Herbert and Kevin Haley all had RBI singles in the inning. Mark Bonfiglio threw five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits. Haley came in to complete the shutout. Jesse Michel went 3-3 with a double and 2 stolen bases to lead the offense. Portage South got a forfeit from Alliance White PT on Thursday.
The Valley City Cardinals came to Ravenna High School to face Portage South/Glory Days on Sunday. In game one, Valley City scored one in the top of the first inning. PS quickly tied it with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Portage South scored two more in the second, but the Cardinals got two in the fourth. VC took the lead with two runs in the fifth, but PS posted eight runs in the bottom of the inning. Nick Dean had a 2-run single and Dan Herbert hit a 2-run double in the inning. John Misler threw 4 1/3 innings, striking out 8 batters. Tony Lewitzke threw 2 2/3 innings in relief for his second win of the season. Dean went 3-4 with 2 RBIs in the game.
In game two, Portage South found themselves down 2-1 after one. They tied it in the second and broke the game open in the third. Eric Jones had a 3-run double in the four run inning. Jones added a 2-run single in the fourth inning to push the lead to 10-2 after four. Dan Herbert hit a 3-run homerun in the fifth. Jesse Michel threw the first complete game of the year for PS, allowing five hits and striking out 9.
